Wimbledon Introduces Video Review Technology This Season.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Video review technology will be launched at The Championships this year.

Players will gain the option to challenge specific calls made by the official, echoing the system currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step comes just a year after the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine specific decisions, including:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can request.

Case in Point

An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another change at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.

Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
